Responsibility for Generations

Exploring new innovations and constantly striving to find a better way is a path well paved by Miele, inspired by the Company philosophy of being „Forever Better“, ever since its founding in 1899 by Carl Miele and Reinhard Zinkann. A member of the UN Global Compact since 2004, creating innovative products which conserve energy and water consumption and benefit our environment is essential.

As mankind is faced with ever increasing challenges such as climate change and declining natural resources, it is our responsibility to confront these issues in our exploration of new technologies and materials.

Despite the growing global demand for Miele products, Miele have successfully reduced and optimized the raw materials, energy and packaging utilized in our production processes.

Recycling in an efficient and ecologically responsible manner inspires our product design from inception, for example, 85% of our domestic washing machines constitute of metal and can be easily recycled.

The plastics used are easily recycled and have a clean bill of health. This is guaranteed in part by the fact that Miele produces around 70% of all plastics at its own injection moulding plant.

To ensure that Miele appliances will stand the test of time and give unbeatable performance for up to 20 years, we really put them through their paces in our test laboratories before full production commences.

Miele laundry care appliances are designed and tested for 5,000 cycles, which equates to 10,000 working hours on washing machines and 7,500 on tumble dryers, that’s equivalent to 5 washing and drying cycles per week for 20 years. Dishwashers are subjected to 7,500 cycles of a 75°C programme, equivalent to one load every day for 20 years.

The motor on vacuum cleaners undergo a lifetime test of 1,000 hours – 400 hours beyond that which international test institutes demand.

In keeping with the company philosophy of being 'Forever better', through innovative technology, Miele has succeeded in further reducing electricity, water and detergent consumption

All Miele appliances are designed to be as energy-efficient as possible. Energy labelling provides information on how effective Miele's activities are. All washing machines and dishwashers are A-rated for energy efficiency. Washing machines are even 10% more economical than required for an A-rating. On the refrigeration side, more than 95% of fridges and freezers have an A, A+ or A++ rating.

Between 1990 and the present day, for instance, water consumption has been reduced by over 42%. During the same period, energy consumption dropped by over 29%. Today, a Miele washing machine can be up to 20% more economical than required for an A energy efficiency rating (model dependent), in the standard 'Cottons 60°C' programme.

For the first time, Miele launched a washing machine, Eco Comfort, last year featuring an "Eco Feedback" function,  providing information on current electricity and water consumption.

A special feature of this machine is its ability to visualise energy and water consumption via the Eco Feedback function. Before starting a programme, users can call up a consumption forecast. After completion of a cycle, precise data is presented.
